The book Dawn in India, written by Younghusband in 1930, is an excellent source book for understanding Indian history in the time and space. The author deals with the subject in two parts that is, political and spiritual. What was the attitude of the British rulers and the Christian Missionaries? How the Indian nationalism evolved? Why Hindu, Muslim tension? Working on reforms, The Indian states, defence of the frontiers, responsible self-government are the topic dealt with under Politics. In the second part he examines Indian spirituality, describing the role of Tagore, Gandhi and Radhakrishanan. He ends the book with his vision of the ultimate destiny of world purpose of the kingdom of God. An interesting and fascinating account of the evolution of India by a very competent and experienced military adventurer and a scholar.
