N. D. Jayal achieved legendary status for the seven years that he spent in Kinnaur serving the tribal people as their first Deputy Commissioner between 1960- and 1967 a historical landmark in the story of the newly formed state of Himachal Pradesh. He played a key role in formulating Indias environment policy and establishing the country first National Parks and sanctuaries. His post-retirement crusades for environment justice and transparency have inspired a whole generation of ecologists, conservation scientist and activists. This book covers only a part of life story as told by those who worked with him and shared his dreams, but we hope it will continue to inspire the young and hopeful.
