There are scanty of resources on psycho-social intervention for the children with intellectual disabilities. The studies mostly so far have concentrated on individual therapeutic interventions for the children. As these children have mental health problems, appropriate intervention is necessary to give these children an opportunity to adopt themselves to a normal daily life. The children with intellectual disability face severe problems to adopt to their environment. Their day today functioning and learning are impaired not only by their cognitive functioning but also by the adverse environmental factors. The behavioral problems faced by these children can be somehow mitigated by appropriate psycho-social intervention. There are very few available services for these children and their parents in our country to target the psychological intervention through psychiatric clinics. Therefore psychological services to the parents of these children are also necessary for providing case work and counselling services using various therapies. The present study focuses on psycho-social intervention for care givers, parents, school teachers, families and the community. The study also focuses on how to empower the parents, families, and communities with increased knowledge about intellectual disability, and to reduce stigma and myths associated with disability. The book is an out come of a research study and is useful for the parents with intellectually disabled children, the school teachers engaged in teaching these children, the NGO’s working in the field of disability and also the policy makers.
