CANCER: A term associated with me since my childhood. Spare me your 60 seconds of time - My experience with cancer begins when I was about 12 years as my mom was diagnosed cervical cancer. She survived for 25 years but always urged for a better quality of life (QOL) over length of life. Later, when I was 24 years, my papa was diagnosed head and neck cancer. He has survived for one year but took his last breath with pain, fatigue, loss of appetite and other functional issues. He struggled for his quality of life. After he passed away, my professional journey begins at cancer hospital. This book is a result of my childhood experience as well as my direct working experience in the oncology settings. In this book, the issues (i.e., physical, functional, emotional, social, sexual, and spiritual) of advanced cancer patients and family members are explained. Five case studies will provide a better glimpse to the reader along with quantitative data. Four key factors of cancer are– prevention, early detection, survival and quality of life. QOL is an important domain area for cancer patients. Validated measure scales are used to assess QOL. In this book, cancer site specific QOL as well as intervention/treatment wise QOL are deeply explained. This book has also covered the areas of different well-being measures of patients. After reading this book, one can understand the issues of a cancer patients and how different interventions can play their role to improve QOL.
